A 13-year-old girl remained hospitalized Sunday, two days day after she was struck by a Unified Police Department vehicle when she apparently darted across a dark street to meet her father.

The accident occurred at 9:14 p.m. near 3330 East and 4500 South. Salt Lake City police, who were investigating the case since it involved a UPD officer, reported that the girl was walking with friends on the north side of 4500 South when she began to cross the street to reach her father, who was parked on the south side.

Investigators said the girl apparently did not notice the approaching UPD vehicle, and the officer driving it was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting her.

The girl was conscious when taken to Primary Children's Medical Center for treatment of unspecified injuries.

Police released no other information, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
