Tooele-based Magnus Racing wins GT class at Daytona

Daytona Beach, Fla. • Magnus Racing, which is based at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, won the GT class Sunday in the 50th Grand-Am Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona.

The No. 44 Magnus Porsche 911, co-driven by team owner John Potter, Andy Lally, Richard Lietz and Rene Rast, completed 727 laps of the 3.56-mile course at Daytona International Speedway.

Victory came after a prolonged, head-to-head battle with the TRG and Brumos Porsche teams.

On Friday, another local team, Miller Racing, finished 18th in the BMW Performance 200. It was the opening event in the Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series.

Miller Racing, with team owner Roger Miller and co-driver Ian James, was running fifth in the two-hour race before James was hit in the rear bumper, dropping the team back in the 80-car field.
