Civics Central: Shelter open house canceled, school boundaries and more

Here's your weekly roundup of what local city councils, school boards and other government entities are tackling during regularly scheduled meetings. All meetings are open to the public, and citizens are welcome to voice their opinions during designated times. If you do wish to speak at a particular meeting, you may need to sign up in advance.

Taylorsville • Mayor Russ Wall delivers his annual State of the City address, Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 6:30 p.m., City Hall, 2600 W. Taylorsville Blvd. (5325 South).

West Valley City • The open house slated for Thursday, Feb. 2, at the West Valley-Taylorsville Animal Shelter has been canceled due to scheduling conflicts.

Salt Lake City Council • Members will discuss the 10-year Capital Facilities Plan, which guides decisions on everything from buying and renovating buildings to upgrading streets and parks; Tuesday, Jan. 31, 3 p.m., City Hall Room 326, 451 S. State St.

Utah County Commission • Panel expects to vote on boundaries for voting precincts, as well as for Alpine and Nebo school district seats. The commission will also receive a report on flooding on North University Avenue in Provo during construction there; Tuesday, Jan. 31, 9 a.m.; County Commission Chambers, Suite 1400, 100 E. Center St., Provo.

Draper City Council • Members will conduct a Town Hall meeting about the SunCrest development settlement and its purchase by MCO; Tuesday, Jan. 31, 7 p.m., Draper City Hall, 1020 E. Pioneer Road. 

Salt Lake County Council • Members will weigh a proposal to be more lenient with companies that did not update their business licenses in time when the county switched last year to staggered dates for reissuing permits. Up to then, business license renewals were required by the end of the calendar year; Tuesday, Jan. 31, about 2 p.m., second floor of the North Building at the County Government Center, 2001 S. State St. The formal meeting begins at 4 p.m. in the first floor council chambers.
