West Valley City man sought after alleged assault on quadriplegic

A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of a West Valley City man accused hitting his quadriplegic girlfriend in the face with a telephone.

In an arrest warrant filed by the West Valley City prosecutor's office Tuesday, 24-year-old Brennon Eric Peters is alleged to have attacked the woman on Jan. 21 in a room they shared at the Value Place Hotel, 1646 W. 3500 South.

West Valley police learned of the incident while conducting a welfare check on the woman, who is paralyzed from the neck down. Prosecutors now are seeking Peters on suspicion of one count of abuse of a vulnerable adult, a class A misdemeanor.

Court records show Peters has an extensive history with law enforcement going back seven years, with arrests for alleged offenses ranging from intoxication to domestic violence and assault.

On Jan. 26, he had been sentenced to 10 days in jail, 12 months supervised probation and counseling for anger issues on a guilty plea to a class B misdemeanor assault.

The arrest warrant was filed on Tuesday in 3rd District Court, seeking Peters' immediate apprehension "Based on the risk of future harm" police believe he poses to the victim.
