A bill that would require local police departments to post their policy about using off-duty officers on security details cleared a Senate committee unanimously Wednesday afternoon.
Sen. Margaret Datyon, R-Orem, said she had been told there has been confusion because there isn't a uniform policy where cities can go to determine if local law enforcement agencies have policies about hiring cops from other departments while off-duty.
The bill, SB120, was supported by the Fraternal Order of Police and the League of Cities and Towns.
"There's got to be transparency in the process," said Kelly Atkinson, a lobbyist for the Fraternal Order of Police.
The measure now moves to the Senate.
