Salt Lake City police want the public's help in bringing to justice a gunman who robbed a downtown convenience store earlier this week.

The suspect in the Wednesday afternoon holdup of the Maverik store at 310 S. 900 East approached the clerk at 3:21 p.m. with a black handgun and demanded cash from the register. The clerk complied and the suspect left, fleeing northbound from the store.

The suspect is described as a white male with a goatee, about 30-40 years old, 5-foot-9, 170 pounds and wearing dark pants, sunglasses and a black hooded sweatshirt. Underneath the sweatshirt, the man also wore a black shirt bearing the letters "TA."

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call police at 801-799-3000. Tipsters also may text anonymous information to police at CRIMES (274637) with the keyword TIPSLCPD.
