A day-long, alcohol-fueled domestic dispute escalated to a fatal stabbing at a Bountiful housing complex late Tuesday night.

Bountiful police responding to a neighbor's 911 call at 11:10 p.m. found 52-year-old Michael Dunn unconscious and bleeding heavily in his unit at the Summer Garden Townhomes, 2520 S. 500 West. It appeared he had been stabbed at least once in the torso with a kitchen knife, police Lt. Sol Oberg said.

Officers soon located and took into custody Dunn's girlfriend, Shannon Sander, 43, as she walked just east of the complex. During questioning by detectives, Sander allegedly confessed to stabbing Dunn, Oberg said.

"They had been arguing throughout the day and had been drinking," Oberg said.

Emergency medical personnel called to the unit were unable to revive Dunn, who was declared dead at the scene.

It was Sander who reportedly asked her neighbor to call 911.

Sander was being held without bail Wednesday in the Davis County jail on suspicion of first-degree felony murder.
