Police say Taylorsville man raped girl, recorded phone video

A 22-year-old Taylorsville man was arrested after a 13-year-old runaway girl told police he had repeatedly raped her — and also recorded the acts on his smartphone's video application.

Corey James Eskelson was being held in Salt Lake County Jail Thursday on suspicion of three counts of first-degree felony rape of a child; two counts of second-degree felony sexual exploitation of a minor; and one class B misdemeanor count of telephone harassment.

According to a probable-cause statement filed by Taylorsville police with the jail, Eskelson, after being notified of his right to remain silent, admitted to police that he had sex with the girl on three occasions — and twice recorded the encounters — at an apartment near 3900 South and 1100 West.

Eskelson was arrested Wednesday after the girl, who had returned home, told an adult of the incidents. Police were notified soon thereafter.

Court records show that on Jan. 24, in a case unrelated to the alleged rapes, Eskelson had entered a guilty plea to a class A misdemeanor after prosecutors amended a third-degree felony aggravated assault charge. Sentencing on that charge is set for March 7.
