One person killed in crash on U.S. 40 near Park City

A crash on U.S. Highway 40 near Park City claimed the life of one person Monday afternoon, the Utah Highway Patrol reported.

Five people were in the Saturn sedan, traveling east about 4 p.m. near Silver Creek Junction, troopers said. The Saturn veered to the right, rolled through the snow and vaulted off a culvert, troopers wrote in a statement Monday night.

The car then crashed into the opposite side of the culvert and rolled onto its top.

One female died at the scene and another was critically injured and flown to a hospital. Three males in the car also were injured, one critically. They were driven to hospitals.

Troopers were withholding the victims' names, ages and hometowns pending family notifications, said UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson. Investigators do not know why the driver veered off the road.
