Former Olympus High star Nicholas Paulos is playing his college basketball a long way from home, but he's flourishing as a freshman at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. Paulos helped UNCG recover midway through the season after the Spartans started 2-8 and then fired coach Mike Dement. They were 2-14 at one point, but interim coach Wes Miller got it turned around, and they won 10 of their next 14 games to finish 12-18, including 10-8 in conference play. Paulos, who played at a prep school for a year after graduating from Olympus, is the teams sixth-leading scorer with a 5.6 average. In the last five games, he has averaged nine points and 17 minutes a game. In an early non-conference game, he scored 25 points against Towson. The Spartans begin play in the conference tournament on Friday in Asheville, N.C. as the No. 1 seed from the North Division of the SoCon.
