WSU hosts Intermountain sustainability summit

On Wednesday and Thursday, Weber State University will host the third annual Intermountain Sustainability Summit.

The two-day event, held at the Shepherd Union Building, will bring together people from business, government, education and the community to explore ways to implement eco-friendly policies and strategies.

Eric Lombardi, who created the first curbside recycling program in North Carolina in 1986 and now serves as executive director of Eco-Cycle, will deliver the keynote address at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday titled "A 10-Year Strategy for Building a Zero Waste Community."

Several sessions will be offered Wednesday dealing with workplace sustainability, greening your business, commercial energy efficiency, market-driven recycling and more.

On Wednesday, the documentary "Wind Uprising" will show at 6:30 p.m., detailing the four-year saga to establish the Spanish Fork wind project.

Thursday's events start with an 8:30 a.m. keynote address by Jim Evanoff, an environmental protection specialist for Yellowstone National Park. Evanoff will speak about Yellowstone's 140-year journey toward sustainability.

Thursday's sessions include residential energy efficiency, greening your garden and groceries, municipal solid waste, hazardous waste disposal and more.
