Poisonous theater fun

A cynic would say that playwright Joseph Kesselring wrote a drama critic into "Arsenic and Old Lace" with the aim of pleasing drama critics first.

While it's true that the character of Mortimer Brewster represents one of the best drama critics to grace the plot of a stage farce, it's also true that Kesslering's play is great enough to stand on its own laughable feet, with a brother operated on to look like Boris Karloff, another brother who thinks he's President Teddy Roosevelt, two spinster aunts, and lots of elderberry wine to go around.

Tucker Dansie directs The Midvale Arts Council production of this theater favorite. The cast includes Melanie Turner as Aunt Martha, Catherine Bohman as Aunt Abby, Jeremiah Wing as Mortimer, Larissa Villers as Elaine, Ira Reed as Teddy, Travis Eberhard as Dr. Einstein, Matthew Richardson as Jonathon and Galen Chatteron, Mark Hanson, DeeDee Palmer, Brady Hales, and Michael Murdock in other assorted roles.
