It was a good but tough night for the Utah gymnastics team Friday, which lost to Nebraska 197.6-197.45. The Utes felt better about their performance than they have following their recent meets, but Friday's meet was an indication they still have a lot of work to do, they said. The problem is they just have one meet left, a road trip to Florida. "We did better tonight but we know there is room for improvement," senior Stephanie McAllister said. "We've got to have a good week of training and go into Florida and do even better." Can the Utes keep improving? No one should doubt they can, but Friday's meet is a good reminder they aren't the only team improving. Nebraska has been on a rise recently despite having a squad dealing with several injuries. After the meet Nebraska coach Dan Kendig said he expected both Utah and the Huskers to be on the podium at the NCAA Championships. For that vision to come forth, the Utes had better get busy. "It was a good lesson that you have to be sharp and do the little things well," Utah coach Greg Marsden said. "That is what makes the difference and they were sharper than we were tonight. Obviously all the credit goes to them and for their balance beam, especially after their third person fell." - Lya Wodraska
