Now you can have a cupcake and a pie, too, at Mini's bakery in Salt Lake City.

Get a free sample of the shops new line of small pies on Wednesday, March 14, which happens to be National Pie Day. (You'll have to think back to high school geometry and remember the Greek letter pi — Π —- is equal to 3.14.)

Anyway, real pie samples will be available beginning at 8 a.m. at the downtown Mini's store, 14 E. 800 South in Salt Lake; and starting at 10 a.m. at the Sugarhouse store, 1751 S. 1100 East. Go early as there are limited supplies.

The new made-from-scratch pie collection stays with the shop's "smaller is better' theme. Mini's pies are 7 inches rather than the traditional 9 inches. They cost $9. Currently there are seven flavors including chocolate satin, strawberry chiffon, coconut and berry.

Just like her mini cupcakes, owner, Leslie Fiet, has given each pie a retro name including Elvis, Donny (after the famous Utah Osmond), Carmen Miranda and the Frenchie.
