The meticulous detail in Joe Carter's almost-photographically rendered still-life paintings is mesmerizing.
Formerly an engineer, jewelry maker and sculptor, Carter works to record small objects, normally held to be mundane and worthless but —not surprisingly — captures the larger culture surrounding us.
His show is at the Phillips Gallery, 444 E. 200 South, Salt Lake City.
