It's been four years in coming, but the Marriott Library is showing off its Edward Abbey collection.

Abbey is, of course, famous for his irreverent writings about Utah and the southwest that include "Desert Solitaire" and "The Monkey Wrench Gang."

The Marriott collection, donated in 2008, includes first editions, Abbey's contracts and correspondence with publishers, magazine and newspaper articles and posters of books that became movies. A special treat is a poster by the legendary illustrator R. Crumb of the cover of "Monkey Wrench Gang."

Brave Cowboy: An Edward Abbey Retrospective, will be open to the public through April 27 at the Marriott Library on the University of Utah campus. www.lib.utah.edu/
