Coach says RSL working on getting back to being a team focused on details

The general manager says RSL must win the MLS Cup and return to the CONCACAF Champions League knockout stages for this season to count as a success.

But the coach is trying hard not to look so far ahead.Coach Jason Kreis is working to focus RSL on day-to-day details this season, after feeling as if the team allowed itself to get too "swept up" in results the last two years — thinking "about how successful we were, and always be thinking about the three points, and talking about Supporters Shield last year, early in the season."Now, "we want to look past results and more into the details," he said, heading into the home opener against the New York Red Bulls at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday night.Kreis said there is no incongruity between his focus and the goals of his boss, general manager Garth Lagerwey. Ideally, he said, concentrating on the little things game-to-game will deliver RSL where it wants to be at the end of the season."We need to get back to what we're about, and who we are," Kreis said. "We're not a club that talks only about results. … That's really the message that we continue to try to talk about in the locker room and that people need to understand. When the performance is good, most often, the result is going to be good.""For me, all of the little things that go into the results are what's important and they need to continue to be important," he said.
