If you were smart enough to be at Salt Lake City nightclub One on Friday night, you were in rare company: Rapper Common was celebrating his 40th birthday party at the club, with the help of a "secret" celebrity guest Kanye West.

Konstantine Deslis, founder of Creative Marketing Group, which has worked with Common in the past, said the rapper was lured back to Utah to mark the big B-Day with a series of dinners and outdoor play, including snowmobiling and skiing in Park City. He was surprised by 35 of his closest friends and family on Wednesday at a private residence in Park City, and one day was treated to a dinner hosted by the owners of Vida Tequila, who live in Utah. They also sponsored the One event, during which Common freestyled a line or two about SLC.

Common has been to Utah before, most recently for the Sundance Film Festival. He appeared in the U.S. Dramatic Competition film "Luv," with Danny Glover, and was happy to make a repeat visit, according to Deslis.

West flew in Friday to join the festivities, which featured a "monster" birthday cake, washed down with Vida tequila, of course.
