A seat at the Broadway Centre Cinemas can be had for the price of a movie ticket.

For a good seat at the Broadway, the Salt Lake Film Society would like you to give more.

The film society's "Creature Comforts" fund-raiser is underway, as the nonprofit that operates Salt Lake City's two art-house cinemas — the Broadway (at 111 E. 300 South) and the Tower (at 876 E. 900 South) — is trying to raise money to upgrade the 1,100-plus seats in the Broadway's six theaters.

There's a challenge grant involved: For every dollar raised (up to $54,000) by April 6, the theater's landlord will match it.

There are benefits to donating. For a $500 donation, you can buy a seat — with a plaque that has your name (or someone else's name) engraved on it. Other gifts are available for smaller donations.

After the first week of fund-raising, the film society has reached 18 percent of its goal.
