Jazz's Raja Bell on second opinion, being healthy, wanting to play, microfracture surgery

Atlanta — Excerpts from an interview Sunday with Jazz guard Raja Bell after Utah's 139-133 four-overtime loss to the Hawks.Bell on where things stand with his health and the second opinion about his left knee: I got the MRI way back when. But I was playing through it; it was OK. In light of the Josh [Howard] situation, my agent called me and said he wanted to get a second opinion on it. I just said that I was going to get a second opinion and I sent the films out. I had my agent call the doc and I spoke to the doc and told him my situation and asked him to look at [the films]. And he said OK. But never did I say I wasn't playing or anything like that. I'd have been playing. … Literally I never said anything about it, other than, 'Hey, I'm going to send these films out to get a second opinion.' When he received the second opinion: The second opinion, we sent the films to the doc, but they didn't get there on Friday. He's supposed to call me in the morning and let us know what's up. Maybe it was just naive of me — I thought I'd come back and play once the adductor got healthy and the second opinion would be what it was. They told me in Sacramento … that I wouldn't be playing, pending that. So it is what it is.Possible damage to the knee: They've already told me the solution to the problem — [microfracture]. But I just want another doc to take a look and make sure that is, in fact, what the remedy for that injury … and just to cover my bases. My agent though it'd be prudent.Doesn't want to have microfracture surgery: I don't want to have to. But it's something that I have to weigh. If I don't have to, I don't want to, for sure. But if it's something that's going to be chronic — if it's going to be causing me enough discomfort to limit my effectiveness — then that's a call that we'll have to make.
