Road reopens after Midvale crash sends man to hospital

A man had to be cut from the wreckage of his vehicle and part of a roadway was closed Tuesday afternoon after a two-vehicle collision in Midvale.

Unified police Lt. Justin Hoyal said a Toyota Tacoma was eastbound with a Dodge Durango behind it on 7000 South near 1000 West about 2:30 p.m. The 33-year-old woman driving the Durango moved from one lane to another to pass the Tacoma, but apparently misjudged the distance behind the vehicles, clipping the rear of the Tacoma, which spun and rolled, injuring the 62-year-old male driver.

He was extricated from his vehicle and taken to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition but was later upgraded to serious, Hoyal said.

The woman driving the Durango and her 5-year-old child were uninjured.

Hoyal said traffic investigators were working to determine who was responsible for the crash.

Hoyal said the roadway was closed to eastbound traffic but reopened about 6 p.m. He said westbound traffic was unaffected.
