The color-filled photographs of Utah's Christine McDonough are on display at Red Butte Garden, on the University of Utah campus.

McDonough got her first point-and-shoot camera at age 16, eventually graduating to the high-quality digital SLR she uses now. Growing up in Utah, she was inspired to photograph the stunning places around her — from Capitol Reef's red rocks to the forests of the Wasatch and Uinta ranges. Her work has evolved to more abstract patterns and bold colors, but still retaining the original literal inclination.

McDonough's works will be on display at Red Butte through April 22. A "meet the artist" reception is set for Saturday, April 14, from 3 to 6 p.m.

Red Butte Garden, at 300 Wakara Way, Salt Lake City, is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Saturday, and expands to its spring hours — 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. — starting Sunday, April 1. For admission information, go to www.redbuttegarden.org.
