A woman accused of trying to hit three women with her car while shouting a racial slur allegedly told police "that it was funny to call them 'negroes' and that some people can't take a joke."
In charges filed Monday, police wrote that on Saturday, the 38-year-old woman drove past the three women, who were jogging near 2300 East and 1700 South. The woman yelled a racial epithet at them three times, police wrote. The driver left but later returned and drove into a driveway the three joggers were crossing, forcing them to run into the grass to avoid being hit, investigators wrote. The driver again shouted the epithet at them, police wrote.
The joggers reported the license plate to police, who questioned the registered vehicle owner. The driver was charged with three counts of third-degree felony aggravated assault.
