The state on Friday closed a complaint alleging campaign filing misconduct against Sean Reyes, a Republican candidate for attorney general. Utah election officials concluded Reyes is in compliance with state campaign disclosure laws.

Mark Thomas, director of elections at the lieutenant governor's office, wrote the letter with that finding to Kelly Smith, a Sandy resident who filed the complaint on April 4. The Reyes campaign was notified of the resolution Friday.

The complaint alleged Reyes had contributed $5,000 to his campaign in 2010 from a political action committee he ran before he established a personal campaign committee. The Reyes campaign said it was supposed to have been listed as a reimbursement and amended the filing.

"Since Mr. Reyes has indicated this expenditure was not a campaign contribution, he was under no obligation to file a 30-day contribution report, a 2010 year-end report, or establish a personal campaign committee in 2010," Thomas wrote.

"No further action will be taken on this complaint, and it is considered closed."
