Police say man beat up stroke victim, injected her with meth

A Pleasant Grove man is accused of beating a woman while she was having a stroke.

In charges filed Monday, police wrote that the man, 39, was with the woman Jan. 4 at a motel at 7048 S. 900 East. The man had pushed the woman into the room, where she hit her head against an air conditioning unit, police wrote. The man then kicked her in the back of the head and told her to get up, but she could not move, police wrote.

The man tossed the woman on the bed, where she slept and awoke to further difficulty moving, investigators wrote.

"She was stumbling, screaming and crying," police wrote. The man then started slapping her because her face was drooping, police wrote.

He injected methamphetamine in her hand "to help ease the pain," put her on the floor of his truck, and took her to a friend and to his mother, police wrote.

He finally took her to a hospital, where she was diagnosed with a stroke affecting a cerebral artery.

The man was charged with second-degree felony aggravated assault and third-degree felony intentional abuse of a vulnerable adult.
