Effervescent soundtrack aside, the most interesting angle on "Thoroughly Modern Millie" is how modern this musical about a 1922 Jazz Age girl is.

Incubated at San Diego's La Jolla Playhouse in 2000 and based on the 1967 film of the same name, it's the timeless tale of one independent-minded woman out to show the world what she's made of. In this case it's small-town Kansas girl Millie Dillmount, fresh on the scene in New York City and out to marry money. Hopefully, bobbed hair in the "flapper" style will do her right. But in the coming-of-age tale set to music, nothing of course ends as it sets course for in the beginning.

With music by Jeanine Tesori, lyrics by Dick Scanlan and book by Scanlan with Richard Morris, the musical won Best Musical and five other Tony Awards in 2002. Ten years later, it's aged incredibly well.

Terrace Plaza Playhouse's production in Ogden starts Lindsay Poll and Ashley Davis in lead roles in an alternating schedule, April 20 through June 2.
