Weber County man working in storm drain dies after being struck by car

A Weber County man died after being hit by a car while working in a storm drain in Draper on Wednesday.

Draper police responded to a small shopping center known as the Draper Spectrum, near 11950 South 150 East, at about 5 p.m., said Draper police Sgt. Pat Evans.

"Another adult male drove into parking lot and struck the victim who was working in the hole," Evans said.

The Weber County man — whose name was not released pending notification of family — was working in the shallow storm drain when the driver used a handicap ramp as a shortcut into the parking lot.

"It is commonly misused," Evans said of the ramp, not meant for vehicles.

Police believe the driver of the car didn't see the man as he hit him.

The man was found inside the square storm drain and was transported in critical condition to Intermountain Medical Center, but shortly after was pronounced dead.

No citations were issued to the driver at the time, however, the accident is still under investigation, Evans said.
