College baseball • Utah Valley wins 16th straight game

Orem • Goose Kallunki homered twice as Utah Valley University set a new school record with its 16th straight win, 12-5, over the University of Texas-Pan American on Thursday night at Brent Brown Ballpark.

The Wolverines (23-11, 9-0 GWC) tallied three triples as UVU got off to a fast start, taking a 3-0 lead after the first inning. A balk put the Wolverines on the board, and Kallunki followed with a mammoth, two-run blast to left. Sean Moysh's two-out triple in the second gave way to an RBI single from Billy Burgess to make it 4-0 Wolverines.

IPFW 7, SUU 5 • In Cedar City, Southern Utah suffered a 7-5 defeat to IPFW on Thursday, striking out 12 times and coming just one short of its season high .

Women's tennis

Hawaii Pacific 5, Dixie State 0 • In San Rafael, Calif., No. 7 seed Dixie State lost its opening-round match of the PacWest Tennis Championships to No. 2 seed Hawaii Pacific at the Marin Tennis Club. Hawaii Pacific dominated three doubles matches, allowing just one point.
