Search for 4-year-old boy who fell in Weber River resumes

Ogden • As the search for a 4-year-old boy believed to have drowned in the Weber River goes forward, the size of the effort may be scaled back, officials said Tuesday.

Weber County sheriff's Lt. Mark Lowther said the number of searchers devoted to finding Corbin Anderson may vary from day-to-day, depending on the resources available.

During the past four days, search teams have been joined at times by as many as 30 of the boy's family and friends.

On Tuesday, family members again were walking the banks and "waiting."

"We've been walking the shore and stuff, hoping he can be found," said Corbin's aunt, Michelle Faamausili. "There's not much else we can do."

Faamausili called Corbin "a mischievous, adventurous, fearless 4-year-old."

The boy tumbled into the river Saturday evening while standing on a boulder so his family could take his picture, police have reported.

His parents jumped into the cold, spring runoff-fed water after him, but were unable to reach the child before the turbulent current carried him away.

Tuesday's search included search dogs and their handlers.

However, divers — who had reported the river's current and debris flow too dangerous to risk again — were not being used.

The search was concentrated between the Ogden Kayak Park near 24th Street and between Exchange Road and 17th Street.

Ogden police Lt. Danielle Croyle said that 17th Street was the downstream end-point of the search because there is a grate at that location, which also is where the Weber joins the Ogden River.
