A year before "Gone With the Wind" hit theaters, Bette Davis won an Oscar for playing another Southern belle in "Jezebel."

Director William Wyler's 1938 melodrama gets a weeklong run at the Tower Theatre, starting Friday, May 4.

Davis plays Julie, a headstrong young woman in antebellum Louisiana who controls her fiance Preston Dillard (Henry Fonda), until her domineering personality drives him away. She fights to get him back, with shocking results.

"Jezebel" plays as part of the Salt Lake Film Society's "Tower Through Time" series. It screens nightly this week at 9:45 p.m. Admission is $8.75.
