Utah forecast: Sunny, clear and warm in north, hot in south

Utah's weekend forecast calls for clear and sunny skies with temperatures in the 70s and 80s in the north and the mercury soaring into the mid-90s in the southern part of the state.

Northern Utahns looked for highs in the mid-70s on Sunday, following Saturday's forecast for temperatures right around 70 degrees, while the Wasatch Front is expected to hit the low 80s on Monday.

In southern Utah, it will definitely be shorts and sandals weather with highs ranging from the low 90s Sunday, mirroring Saturday's forecast, and edging into the mid-90s on Monday.

However, the dry and occasionally windy weather prompted the National Weather Service to begin the weekend with a "Red Flag" fire danger warning for the southwestern corner of Utah. Public safety officials warned recreationists to be especially vigilant about sparks, open fires and disposal of cigarettes.

Salt Lake City's Sunday high was predicted at 75 degrees, up 4 degrees from Saturday's forecast, while Monday was expected to hit 82 degrees; Ogden looked for readings of 75, 70 and 80, respectively; Provo 76, 72 and 83; Logan 75, 71 and 80; Wendover 76, 73 and 82; Duchesne 73, 73 and 79; Cedar City 77, 76 and 82; St. George 92, 92 and 94; and Moab 81, 83 and 86 degrees.
