Richard Thompson has written so many beautiful acoustic songs over the years, and "Dimming of the Day" is one of his best.

I first heard it on the soundtrack of "The Divine Secrets Of The Ya-Ya Sisterhood," which I am embarrassed at and haven't revealed until today. I don't know in what context the song appeared, since I haven't seen the film. I swear.

The love song was written by Thompson and performed with his then-wife Linda Thompson on the 1975 album "Pour Down Like Silver." I was excited to see it included on Alison Krauss' most recent album, and although she nails it, I love the harmonies of Richard and Linda. Others have performed it, too, as you can see below.
