A Uintah County boy who was accidentally run over by his mother's van has returned home to heal.

Uintah County Undersheriff John Laursen said the 4-year-old was back home late Monday night after having been rushed Saturday night to Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City.

"He's doing well. He does have a broken femur and is in a cast, but he's expected make a fully recovery in about six weeks," Laursen said.

The accident happened Saturday about 9:20 p.m. at 1760 S. Vernal Ave. The boy's mother told deputies her son and other children had been playing in front of the house. She decided to move the family's van so she could keep a better eye on them.

She was backing the van up when she felt it hit something. At first, she told police, she thought she had run over the family cat. However, other adults at the home screamed at the woman to stop the car; that is when she learned she'd run over her son, Laursen said.

It turned out that the boy had been hiding under the van, preventing his mother from seeing him.

No charges are expected to be filed, Laursen said.
