The Utah Transit Authority plans to resume TRAX service Friday to three stations around the Gateway in downtown Salt Lake City.

The Planetarium, Old Greek Town and Salt Lake Central TRAX stations have been closed since May 5 as workers connect the new airport line to the existing system.

Construction on the new connection at 400 West and South Temple is scheduled to be completed Wednesday. Thursday will be used for a full day of testing, when trains will run between the Arena station and Salt Lake Central but will not carry passengers beyond the Arena station.

"Testing must be completed successfully before we can resume passenger service," said Paul O'Brien, UTA Rail Services general manager. "As long as everything checks out on Thursday, we'll be ready to start carrying passengers on Friday."
