Washington City man dies from head-on crash injuries

A Washington City man has died from injuries he suffered when an out-of-control SUV driven by a St. George teenager struck his pickup truck head-on.

St. George police confirmed Thursday that Donald Padilla, 43, was declared dead late Wednesday after being airlifted to University Medical Center in Las Vegas in extremely critical condition.

Two 17-year-old boys — the driver and a passenger in the GMC Yukon that collided with Padilla's Ford pickup about 7 a.m. Wednesday at 1450 S. 2400 East, near the Stone Cliff housing community — were hospitalized in St. George but reportedly did not have life-threatening injuries.

St. George police Sgt. Craig Harding said no citations had been issued, but the accident remained under investigation. Earlier, he had said there was no indication of drugs or alcohol being involved, but that those factors would be routinely investigated along with speed and the possibility of the driver being distracted at the time of the accident,
