Woman dies after head-on crash in Woods Cross

A Salt Lake City woman died Thursday morning after being airlifted from the scene of a head-on crash in Woods Cross.

Woods Cross Police Chief Greg Butler said the accident occurred just after 8 a.m. as Marlene Andrew, 50, was eastbound in an Isuzu Rodeo on 2600 West just west of Wildcat Way. He said Andrew swerved sharply to the left, collided with a car waiting to turn north and then careened head-on into a westbound pickup truck.

Butler said a witness told police that Andrew had appeared to slump over her steering wheel shortly before the crash.

"She may have had a medical problem, but we don't know for sure. The accident remains under investigation," the chief said, adding that the state medical examiner planned an autopsy.

Andrew was taken by medical helicopter to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, where she was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the pickup truck was treated for minor injuries at the scene and released, Butler said.

Traffic through the accident area, just east of Interstate 15, was slowed considerably at the height of the morning commute. Motorists experienced delays of 15 minutes or more, particularly in the left two north and westbound lanes of 2600 South.

The accident scene was cleared by 9:45 a.m.
