Memorial Day 2012 a safe holiday on Utah highways

Utah Highway Patrol officials on Tuesday reported no Utahns died in highway crashes over Memorial Day — the first time in a decade zero fatalities have been reported on the holiday.
Statewide there were just 21 injury crashes. Troopers stopped 5,094 cars over the weekend, citing 2,217 drivers for speeding and 85 for DUI, according to Trooper Lawrence Hopper.
Extra DUI patrols and troopers on the road for the holiday weekend made a significant difference, said Hopper.
"All the work we are putting in to patrolling the streets, and being seen, has resulted in zero fatalities," Hopper said.
