Utah's OSHA has launched a summer campaign to help residential construction companies improve safety and prevent injuries on their job sites.
The campaign, dubbed "Residential Construction Emphasis Initiative Prevention Four," will run through Sept. 30.
Representatives from the state's OSHA office will conduct unannounced visits to residential construction sites statewide, to provide information to employers. An OSHA spokesman said the program is aimed at promoting injury prevention by helping identify and eliminate the four major causes of injuries, including:
• Falls from floors, platforms and roofs;
• Getting struck by falling objects, vehicles or equipment;
• Getting caught in excavation/trench cave-ins, and;
• Unwanted contact with electrical overhead power lines, power tools, cords, outlets and temporary wiring.
During their visits, OSHA safety and health consultants will assist in helping employers to recognize and correct safety and health hazards, correcting identified hazards and sharing information about consultation services and training.
