A 48-year-old Riverton woman who lost control of her bicycle while riding on Redwood Road has died.
Utah Highway Patrol troopers said Cathi Turner was riding southbound down a hill about 11 a.m. Saturday near mile marker 35.5 on Redwood Road when she lost control.
Investigators believe Turner may have "clipped" a construction sign that was in the bike lane but had turned sideways, making it difficult to see, said UHP Sgt. David Rumfield.
"Another rider who was with her barely missed the sign," Rumfield said. "We're pretty confident she hit the sign in some manner, and that's what caused her to lose control."
Rumfield said he would examine the bicycle Monday to check for dings or tire damage that would indicate it hit the sign.
Turner, who had been wearing a helmet, went off the road into rocks and dirt where she and her bike "went tumbling to a stop," troopers said. She was transported by medical helicopter to a hospital.
Officials said Turner died Saturday.
