A 21-year-old Uintah County woman died after she reportedly turned into the path of a pickup truck late Wednesday evening on State Road 40, east of Vernal.

Cinder Chivers, of White Rocks, was flown to a Salt Lake City hospital in critical condition, where she later died, the Utah Highway Patrol reported Thursday. Two of Chivers' three passengers also were flown to Salt Lake City for treatment, but the UHP had no immediate information about their conditions.

Chivers, who was driving a Chevy Cobalt, approached a stop sign on 2500 South before turning left onto SR40 at about mile post 141, according to the UHP.

Witnesses told investigators that Chivers came to a stop for only a second, then proceeded into the intersection.

A Ford F-550 traveling on SR40 hit the Chevy. The truck's driver, a 22-year-old Vernal man, was not injured, the UHP reported.
