Donna McAleer graduated from West Point as class president.

She ran the global division of a tech company and she became a world-class bobsled driver.

And Tuesday, she beat Ryan Combe in the Democratic primary in Utah's 1st Congressional District.

None of those is as tough as her next challenge: battling five-term incumbent Rep. Rob Bishop, R-Utah, in a district that is 72 percent Republican.

"I rode up the Olympic hill today [by bicycle]. It's metaphorical in a number of ways," the Park City resident said.

"The race against Bishop is a different race," she said. "It is going to focus on current legislative records. He votes 95 percent of the time with his party leadership. ... People are tired of rigid ideology. We need people who are willing to work and compromise and collaborate. There's some pretty big distinctions between us."
