Man drives over teen after fight in Kearns

A teenager was in critical condition one day after a car drove over him during a fight with the driver.

The victim, a 17-year-old boy, had left a party about 3:45 a.m. Saturday in Kearns with a group of friends when an argument broke out in the car, said Unified Police Department Lt. Justin Hoyal.

The victim and Angelo Ginori, 18, got out of the car and got into a fist fight. Ginori's girlfriend came outside to break the fight up, and Ginori got back into the car. The victim was lying on the lawn of a house near 5500 South and 4700 West.

"[Ginori] was still upset, so he gets in the car, drives up onto the lawn and drives over the victim," Hoyal said.

Ginori then drove away, making it as far as 4700 South 5800 West, where he rolled and crashed the car, Hoyal said.

He fled on foot to the area of Hunter High School, where South Salt Lake police found him, Hoyal said. Ginori did not cooperate, so the officer loosed a police dog on him.

Ginori was taken to the hospital for treatment of a dog bite and was later booked into the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of attempted homicide. Bail was set at $100,000.

The victim was in critical condition as of Sunday night but was stabilizing, Hoyal said.
