Here's what's happening today in pop culture:

• The great Andy Griffith died this morning at his North Carolina home, at the age of 86. And while everyone will remember Griffith for his signature TV work, on "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Matlock," The Cricket offers two viewing suggestions where Griffith was cast against type: As the folksy yet ambitious Lonesome Rhodes, who becomes a megalomaniacal media figure in Elia Kazan's "A Face in the Crowd," and his small role as an irascilble diner customer in Adrienne Shelly's sweet comedy "Waitress." • Cher isn't backing down from her Twitter comment about Mitt Romney and "magic underwear." Like she knows from underwear. [ABC4]

• The New York Times blames multi-tasking for TV critic Alessandra Stanley writing about an Ann Curry tribute montage that never actually aired on Curry's last day on the "Today" show last week. [Poynter.org]
