Here's what's happening today in pop culture:

• Movie studios in solidarity declined to make public their usual weekend box-office estimates, in a show of support to the victims of Friday's movie-theater shooting in Aurora, Colo. Somehow, the planet continued to rotate on its axis. [AP, via Boston.com]

• In response to Friday's shooting, a thoughtful, impassioned argument for regulating access to assault rifles — not from any politician, but from "Seinfeld" star Jason Alexander. [TwitLonger]

• With his documentary on the Dust Bowl in the can (and airing in November), Ken Burns will next turn his attention to the Roosevelts.
