St. George restaurateur admits to keeping sales taxes

The former owner of a St. George pizza parlor has admitted to keeping at least $160,000 in sales and restaurant taxes the business collected.
James Linn Mayoros, owner of Pirate Island Pizza, last week entered guilty pleas in abeyance to three class A misdemeanors for failing to pay taxes he collected from 2008 to 2010, according to Paul Murphy, spokesman for the Utah Attorney General's Office.
Mayoros, 39, was initially charged with eight felonies.
The case will be dismissed after three years if Mayoros pays back the taxes, penalties and interest. He already has paid $150,000, Murphy said.
Third District Judge Robin Reese also ordered Mayoros to complete 100 hours of community service.
