Poet Hilda Doolittle might have reacted to Utah's sizzling forecast this way: "O wind, rend open the heat, cut apart the heat, rend it to tatters."

Shakespeare's Hamlet might lament, resigned to temperatures near or topping triple digits, sighing through a glistening brow: "O that this too too sullied flesh would melt, Thaw, and resolve itself into a dew."

And so it goes. Northern Utahns looked for highs Friday in the upper-90s, mirroring the forecast for Thursday, while in southern Utah days with the mercury hovering above 100 degrees were expected. In both regions, partly cloudy skies were expected to usher in the mornings before dissipating by afternoon.

Air quality statewide was graded "Green" going into the weekend, according to the Utah Division of Environmental Quality.

Salt Lake City expected a high temperature Friday of 98 degrees, down slightly from the Thursday forecast of 99; Ogden looked for 95 and 96, respectively; Provo 96 and 97; Logan 95 degrees both days; Wendover 96 and 95; Duchesne 86 and 87; Cedar City 92 and 90; St. George 102 and 100; and Moab 96 and 98 degrees.
