Salt Lake City police chased down and arrested a man after he allegedly attempted to choke his pregnant wife during a domestic dispute.
The woman called 911 about 6:40 a.m. Wednesday to report her 26-year-old husband had tried to strangle her before fleeing their home near 800 E. Belmont (982 South) Ave. on a bicycle.
The man had pedaled about two miles away when officers located him at 350 E. 1700 South. After a brief chase, the man was taken into custody. The woman did not appear to have been seriously hurt but was transported to a local hospital for precautionary evaluation, according to police.
The man was being held in Salt Lake County jail Thursday in lieu of $27,995 bail. He was charged with felony aggravated assault and possession of stolen property, as well as numerous misdemeanor counts including assault of a pregnant woman and domestic violence in the presence of a child.
