Rock slide in Zion National Park traps hikers

A rock slide trapped 11 hikers Wednesday on a trail in Zion National Park for about three hours.
The rock slide occurred about 5:30 p.m. on the Hidden Canyon Trail, covering a narrow section of the trail with debris, wrote park spokesman Brandon Torres.
Rangers waited for the debris to settle and then set up a rope line, provided helmets to the hikers and helped them out of the canyon. No one was injured.
Overnight, the rocks continued to slide, depositing nearly six additional feet of debris onto the trail. If the area stabilizes, crews will begin work to clear the debris next week, Torres said. The trail will remain closed until further notice.
