Re "British leader takes offense at Romney words, slams Salt Lake City Olympics" (Tribune, July 27):

During the 2002 Winter Olympics, everyone from the mayor on down reassuringly told us all that the Olympics would put Salt Lake City on the map.

Since then, my wife and I have traveled to several foreign countries. Whenever we've been asked where in America we were from and answered "Salt Lake City," we've received nothing but blank stares.

We'd then say, "You know, the Olympics!" and just get a puzzled shake of the head in return.

But now, in response to Mitt Romney's talent for the undiplomatic gaffe, no less than Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron has finally put Salt Lake on the map. There we are at last: in the "middle of nowhere."
