London • Former Brigham Young volleyball standout Russell Holmes scored nine points to lead the U.S. men's volleyball team to a straight-sets victory over Germany in pool-play at the London Olympics on Tuesday.

Holmes and fellow former Cougar Rich Lambourne helped the Americans win 25-23, 25-16 and 25-20 to improve to 2-0 in pool play — they haven't dropped a set yet — with Brazil up next on Thursday, in a rematch of the gold-medal match at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Clayton Stanley led the Americans with 16 points, while Matt Anderson added 15.
